Sometimes I Just Can Not Keep my Mouth Shut!!!!

When I was a teen my father use to say 'Lana sometimes you hear or see things and it is alright to not say anything about them"; and that was usually followed by "You are like your mother; if it is not right you have to say so."  I always took that as a compliment and I always believed that Dad meant it as one.

So when I heard about this on Friday I was appalled and a little hurt.

I know; it is just a comic but it is the emotions or maybe the bad feelings I have for those who enjoy a good life in the United States and then they grab their money, move to another country and renounce us because they do not agree with what our government is doing.

It is our right, as Americans, to disagree with our government when ever we believe that they are off the path. It is our right, as Americans, through the elective process to make changes in that government when we disagree with policy. It is our right, as Americans, to publicly express our feelings about our governments activities and policies. ~~Lana Night Nicholls(2011)

My beef is not with those who express their displeasure with our policies; it is with those that wait until they are outside the United States to do so and pander to their fans in other countries or, and I feel even stronger about this group, those that use the resources of the United States to make their fortunes and then renounce the United States and move the wealth they made on our backs to foreign shores.

People like the Dixie Chicks use this technique to get foreigners to like them and give their European tours a more friendly atmosphere. They never would have said what they did during their European tour, a few years ago, if they were playing in Texas. Their actions were for financial considerations through success of their tour but in reality they were pathetic. But what they have done pales in comparison to some others.

Actors like Danny Glover and Sean Penn actually crawl into bed with people like Hugo Chavez and allow themselves to be used a propaganda tools against their own country. As citizens, of the United States, they have that right. It has always seemed very strange to me that someone who has been extremely successful monetarily would find comfort in the company of socialist/communist dictators. They have little or nothing in common with the everyday people here in the USA let alone with those oppressed by dictators like Chavez. I believe that they are embarrassed by their own wealth and are looking for a way to connect to The People. I believe them to be Elitists who believe that they are smarter than the rest of us. If they were that smart and had all the answers; why are they not stepping into political life and helping us out. After all they are already wealthy.

I bet you never thought a comic book could get someone so riled up. I look at it this way. Comic books are read by many younger individuals who are at an impressionable age. When they see someone who is a symbol of 'Truth, Justice and the American Way' decide to renounce his citizenship, after all this country did for him, they come away with the idea that CITIZENSHIP IS DISPOSABLE. Being a citizen of YOUR country is an honor. It is cherished, nurtured and held onto for life.

As an American I am disappointed in this betrayal by Superman. It does not matter if you are a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Conservative or Liberal American; you should be appalled at anyone, real or unreal, that would renounce their citizenship.

Love ya,
Night
