Nights Dance To Day~~~Chapter 12

Chapter 12

Two hours later we were sitting around an old scarred wooden table eating greasy hamburgers and talking about our next moves. Martin had been put into a 10 x 10 foot concrete room that once served as a meat storage locker. From 20 feet away I could hardly hear his yelling.

“Pete, any news on that house in Jersey?”

“Only some preliminary stuff. Nothing solid yet”, Pete said.

Pete had worked most of his adult life in one branch of government or another. One thing was common to every job he had held; what he was doing was always classified and almost always covert. I had known him since we were kids and not even I knew the what and where’s of what he had done.

What I did know is that interrogation was a specialty and that he was one of the best. I also knew that he always got the answers to the questions he was asking. For this reason Pete would lead Martins questioning.
The ground work had already been laid with Martin. Pete had spent 45 minutes asking soft questions trying to gain Martins confidence, In a few minutes things were going to get much worse for Martin.
Pete’s cell phone rang and he got up from the table and moved away to talk.

“Wailer, I want you out on the street listening and picking up any information hat we might need to know.”

“Anything in particular I need to be looking out for?”’, Wailer.

“Anything to do with Martin and any of us. We need to know who is interested in Martin and his operation.
This guy is to stupid to be the head man. Someone else is pulling his strings.”

“I haven’t heard anything yet but I will keep at it.”, Wailer.

Pete walked to the table. “My guys have some news. The house is owned by a group called Clayton Security. They are sure it is a front company for something else. Clayton has two dozen employees that it lists as ‘Security Specialists’. There has been a lot of phone activity since the two guys we tased were picked up.” This was to be expected as they were accessing their situation. “So far all I really know is that we are out numbered.”

“Pete we need to know what those phone calls are about.”

“Getting a tap into that house is next to impossible. But I did ask them to try and monitor cell phone traffic if
possible. It is a tough area to work in but they will try. I thought it was more important to learn as much as we can on Clayton Security. We need to know who really owns it.”, Pete. I had to agree that Pete was right here.

“We need a change of vehicles. Wailer start looking for something. Nothing to fancy. Get rid of the van and the car I am driving. Be back here by night fall. We should be ready to move by them.”

After Wailer hit the streets; Pete filled me in on his plan for Martin. He had set up a table inside of Martin's room full of instruments he told me he would not have to use. Some I could not even identify and did not ask where he found this stuff. I knew that he would use them if necessary.

Pete made sure he had made a lot of noise setting up the table. I could tell by the sounds coming from Martin that the psychological effects of not knowing what was headed his way were having their desired affect.

“I will not bring you into the room until he is at his breaking point. By the time you come in he should answer anything you ask him.”, Pete.

“While you are in with Martin I will go through my wife’s email account. I still have access. I need to find how she is connected to my nieces kidnapping.”

Pete opened a duffel bag and pulled out a rubber apron and put it on. Then he walked toward where Martin was waiting.

I grabbed another cup of coffee and went to the computer. I did not ask Pete any more questions. He was quickly turning into ‘Covert Pete’, and I just did not want to know where that was leading him.
