I just read an article by Jennifer Iannolo and was struck as to how sensual she made food sound. I try not to over quote any one person but Jennifer is so quotable I can not resist.

'I am often amused at the reaction I get by expressing how closely food and sensuality are related. During a recent cooking class, I was enamored with the sight and texture of a decadent custard we had just prepared. As I drizzled the pearlescent yellow cream over a dish of succulent strawberries, I couldn’t help but to comment aloud, “This, right here, is sex on a plate.” There were some puzzled looks.,

Read that description again!! It reads like a sex scene from a romance novel. If you can not see the sexuality in that luscious cream drizzling over those red, ripe and willing strawberries you are freaking brain dead.

I have always found food sensual. Running different foods over your tongue, feeling texture changes and combining the scent of the spices and foods blending together climaxing in a burst of flavor in your mouth. You getting my point now?

Being sensual requires offering a gift to all the senses. First, as the food is being prepared, your sense of smell is invaded by spice scents floating happily to you through the air. The sound of preparations fills your ears with anticipation. Then, as your food is transported to you, a first sight of it gets your gastronomic juices flowing. When the plate is put before you an urge to touch the food can be overwhelming. That first taste, food moving over your tongue, can make your body shiver with anticipation. Finishing this plate of sensual delight is so climatic you let out an audible moan of satisfaction.

Hmmm!! Much more of that and I will need a cold shower.

The next time your wife or girl friend wants to go to that restaurant, that you feel is over priced and pretentious, take her. Think of it as foreplay. Embrace all the sounds, scents, sights and textures.
