Chapter 11
Both guards remained on the ground almost 15 minutes after Pete and Wailer pulled out in the van. Form my vantage point across the street I could see them stagger to their feet and sit on one of the benches. They were talking frantically and searching form their weapons and cell phones. Finally realizing that the phones were missing; one of them moved toward a nearby bus stop and the pay phone next to it.
After another 30 minutes an SUV pulled into the parking lot and they climbed in. They worked their way down to I-495 and then onto I-278; following the Gowanus Expressway to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge heading over to Staten Island. This surprised me as I thought they would be headquartered in NYC. The good thing was that on these highways following was easy.
I was further surprised when they crossed Staten island and took the Goethals Bridge into New Jersey. They jumped on the New Jersey Turnpike and headed south; getting off at Exit 12, the city of Carteret. Their finally destination was an unassuming house at 17 Dunster Street .
The house looked like all the others on the street. I wondered if any of the locals knew what kind of operation was being run out of it. When Pete and I worked personal security; our headquarters was much like this one. Surveillance here would be hard. I decided a drive by of the house, for a quick look, was all I could chance.
After getting a quick look at the house; I drove back toward the turnpike and parked at a shopping center so I could call Pete.
“Is he awake yet?”
Pete, “Awake but not talking. Says he will only talk to you.”
I filled Pete in on what I had been doing and the house I had found. I asked him to use his contacts to get all the information he could on that house and its owners. I also told him to send Wailer out on the streets and see if anyone was talking about Martin being taken. It was important that we knew who was interested and who was worried that Martin had disappeared.
“ And Pete, tell Wailer to bring in a food supply. We are going to be in that warehouse for awhile.”
Pete, “Any idea how long?”
“Until I am sure that I know everything that Martin has to tell us. After that we can decide what to do with him.”

PS.......When writing it is important to describe areas, that the story is taking part in as closely as possible. A visit to the area , taking pictures, is the best method. But lacking that exercise; using an area that you are familiar with works just as well. This is what I have done here. I lived in Carteret, NJ through my teen years. And you guessed it; at 17 Dunster Street. The Goethals Bridge was my gateway to drinking as the drinking age in New York was 18 and in New Jersey it was 21. I have made many trips across that bridge; both sober and drunk. And I am still alive to write about it. AMAZING!!
You may have also noticed that the book title is floating between 'Nights Dance Into Day" and Nights Dance To Day'. I just can not decide which I like better. Which do you prefer?
Love ya,
Night
