In A Time Of Crisis ~~Why Can The News Not Get it Correct?

The horrible disaster in Japan should be fore front on every ones minds. First, because the Japanese people are in such dire circumstances and they need every ones assistance.  Secondly, because we all need to know how this event impacts the rest of us.

Now, it is true that the news is full of this story. Every news outlet from network, cable, radio and the blogs, are all over it. But here is the strange thing; they all seem to have a different story to tell. I listened to a radio show last night that had a nuclear engineer as its guest. You know the people who build nuclear power plants. The topic of conversation; "Is fallout from the Japanese reactor a threat to the west coast of the USA?" The answer on this particular show was NO; as it will be diluted over a 5,000 mile journey across the Pacific Ocean.

But, just an hour later, a cable TV news show asked the same question and the answer was YES. According to their experts. Confusing? Hell Yes!!

Questions I heard conflicting answers to yesterday:

1. Has the power plant core melted down yet?  Yes and No answers were given.

2. How far will the fallout cloud travel?  I heard a few thousand miles to all the way around the earth.

3. Should we start taking Potassium Iodide pills? Yes and No answers.

4. Who is to blame for this disaster? I heard answers that included the Japanese, the USA, General Electric, and God.

Do you all see a pattern here. I do. None of these people know anything!!! NOTHING!!! They parade expert after expert in front of the TV cameras or radio microphones and they all seem to have a conflicting point of view. In my mind, each of these news outlets have their own agenda. Slanting their coverage, even in a time of crisis, toward a point of view that suits their ideas of how things are in the world. It is both disgusting and alarming to watch.

I fear that we can not fully trust any news coverage. There was a time that we could trust them unquestionably. Now I have to check out my news source for hidden agendas before I can weigh the news they are broadcasting.

I have actually found myself missing news coverage of Charlie Sheen and who the bachelor asked to marry him.

Here is what I ask of you. Weigh everything you hear, on any subject, very carefully. Learn as much as you can about the actual news subject and the people delivering that news to you. And finally decide what is right and true for you and proceed accordingly.

At least if you make a mistake, using this method, it is your mistake and not one created by someone giving you the news and trying to sell dog food at the same time.

Beyond that; keep the Japanese people in your prayers. If you are determined to find a way to help; look at all your options. And in all circumstances, prepare yourself and your family the best you can for there is not much more that you can do.

God Bless The Japanese People.

Love ya,
Night
